About Ian Moore

Tyrone M Carlin. Former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Sydney

“I was fortunate enough to have been one of Ian Moore’s Economics students. Though decades have passed since I enjoyed that privilege, I can still vividly recall the passion, fun and thrill of the classroom experience he created in each lesson and what strength of motivation for learning that provided. Educators like Ian Moore set a gold standard to which those whose calling it is to teach aspire. Yet the extraordinary exposition of true innovators like Ian often remains closed to all but the select few who through sheer serendipity find themselves in his classroom. It is principally for this reason that I regard Creative Economics and Creative Business Studies as such important contributions. To the extent possible in a paper medium, this book represents the distillation of the wisdom, insight and tradecraft generated through decades of extraordinary investment in the process of teaching.

I can attest, through personal experience and through long subsequent reflection, that the approach embedded in Creative Economics represents a powerful catalyst to learning and through that, to success and all of the esteem which accompanies success. That learning approaches for Economics and Business Studies have been codified in such an engaging and accessible way in this new work will truly be to the great benefit of any student aspiring to high performance in this most challenging subject area. I highly commend this work. It will be of enormous value as a learning tool for students and in the classroom.”

“Being a student in Ian Moore’s Economics classes was a highlight of my school years. Ian has brought Economics to life for generations of students – and with Creative Economics, a new generation of students can benefit from his passion for his subject. Like his classroom lessons, Creative Economics is rich in innovative and unconventional learning techniques. This is a lifetime of classroom experience, distilled into the one book.”

Alexander Gow. Executive Director, Macquarie Bank

”For more than 30 years I’ve been encouraging Ian Moore to put together Economics and Business Studies books that would share with students methods to remember Economics and Business Studies, in a format that is easy to read. Students should be gratified that he finally has done so. Thes are invaluable resources.

I wish that I had these books when I myself was a struggling Economics student! Back in 1984 I was indeed a struggling student with no interest in Economics. By the end of the year, thanks to similar techniques that are identified in the Creative Economics and Business Studies textbooks, I received a mark of 98 for 2 unit Economics and 49 (out of 50) for the 3 unit course. These marks are quite irrelevant, but what is important is that the foundations laid in those classes put me in a position to comfortably and confidently understand Economics and set me on course for a career in the field. In my position as the Head of Foreign Exchange Forwards Division of Macquarie Bank, I can still on a daily basis recall some of the fundamentals instilled by Ian’s structures in the 1980s. I can recognise many of these structures in the Creative textbooks.

Those methods have been honed over the years and applied to Creative books. Was I a year 12 student again, I know that I would be very grateful for these books. It clearly identifies all the information that is needed for the exams and provides extension work which more confident students can choose to use to bolster their essays. The definitions are easy to understand, and as someone who always had trouble with multiple choice questions, I know that the tips are just ‘gold’. The inclusion of several finished extended response answers is particularly helpful, as knowing the finished product shows students how all the information comes together and gives them something to emulate.”

My experience with Creative Classroom’s HSC Business Studies has been incredibly rewarding! Its unique and innovative system of learning was refreshing and engaging and furthered my understanding of the requirements of the Business Studies course. The book teaches you the importance of time efficiency, in both exams and preparations, and effectively illustrates how to structure answers for the HSC paper.

The pre-prepared plans to extended response questions were particularly useful! The book brought out my passion for Business Studies and I would highly recommend it for anyone aspiring to achieve a high mark in the course and allows teachers to guide their students to exam success.
